Agricultural and food processing machinery
Food processing machinery was another specialised area in which Mather and Platt had a leading role. Machinery included initial food sorting and preparation equipment, through canning and cooking to final labelling and packing. Entire production lines for canned products were installed for customers like Heinz in Wigan.
The food processing range included;
The HYDROSTAT hydrostatic steriliser had a potential throughput of 2000 cans per minute with sterilising temperatures up to 130C.
The Rotary Steriliser was designed for continuous sterilisation combined with agitation of canned products at up to 100C. A non-pressure steriliser was also available for fruit products.
Sterilising Retorts and ancillary equipment for batch sterilisation
The High Capacity Blancher handled various produce including peas, broad beans, whole and cut green beans, sprouts, cauliflower and carrots.
The Grovesend Grader for accurately grading fruit and vegetables
A Flotation Washer
A continuous operation vegetable peeler and a steam peeler for root vegetables
The Telesol can-filler
A combined solid and liquid filler
A Rotary Pump Filler for filling cans, jars and bottles with jams, pulps, oils, paint and so on
A Piston Filler for high-speed filling of cans and bottles
